DOWNING PARK URBAN FARM BACK IN PRODUCTION IN 2025

After taking a hiatus during last year’s growing season to work on much-needed infrastructure projects at Downing Park Urban Farm (DPUF), we are up and running again and eager to provide the Newburgh community with fresh produce this year! We are in production already, both in our own renovated hoop houses and at SUNY Orange’s greenhouse (thank you, SUNY Orange, for partnering with us!).

We have some exciting updates to share – this year we’ll be expanding the number of farmers markets we visit weekly, and we’ll be accepting EBT payments in 2025 both at farmers markets and at DPUF which is an important step in making fresh, local, and nutritious produce accessible to all.

We’re also expanding into cut flower production at DPUF in 2025. Selling cut flowers on the retail and wholesale markets is a new, innovative way we can earn much-needed revenue to keep the farm operating so we can continue to meet one of our major goals – to donate much of the produce grown on the farm to local food pantries and soup kitchens. We’ll be offering bouquet subscriptions this year, as well as selling bouquets at farmers markets and at DPUF weekly. Look for an announcement about flower subscriptions soon, and please remember, when you purchase flowers from NUFFI, you are playing a big part in our mission to address food and nutrition insecurity in Newburgh.

NEWBURGH URBAN FARMING FAIR 2025

If you’re interested in seeing all the changes at DPUF, please join us on Saturday, April 26th for the 9th Annual Newburgh Urban Farming Fair. Besides offering tours of the farm, the day will be filled with fun – including live music, a children’s theatrical production, storytelling, face painting, food, crafts, vendors, soil testing, educational demos and workshops, and FREE seedlings to get your own garden going! Meet our farm manager, visit with Orange County Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners & 4H Club, get your soil tested by NYC Urban Soils Institute, learn about gardening in your own backyard or in containers, enjoy food from local food trucks, meet your neighbors and enjoy the day! This is a free event and everyone is invited to attend.

If you’d like to volunteer, be a vendor, donate a raffle prize, or sponsor the day’s events, please email development@nuffi.org
